Score Needed Formula
Required Exam Score = (Target Grade β Current Grade Γ (1 β Exam Weight)) Γ· Exam Weight
Example: Target 80%, Current 82%, Exam Weight 25%
= (80 β 82 Γ 0.75) Γ· 0.25 = (80 β 61.5) Γ· 0.25 = 18.5 Γ· 0.25 = 74%
Practical Example
Situation: You're sitting at 82% going into finals. Your final exam is worth 25%. You want to keep at least a B- (80%).
Required exam score = (80 β 82 Γ 0.75) Γ· 0.25 = 74%
That's very achievable! Scoring 90% on the exam would bring your final grade to 84% (B).
