How the Grading Systems Relate
US B (3.0 GPA) = 83–86% = UK 2:1 Upper Second = India 7–8 CGPA
US C (2.0 GPA) = 73–76% = UK 2:2 Lower Second = India 5–6 CGPA
Note: International conversions are approximations. Exact equivalencies depend on the sending institution.
Why Grading Scales Differ
Different countries evolved different grading traditions. The US 4.0 GPA scale rewards consistency over time. The UK classification system rewards performance at degree level. German grades reverse the usual direction β 1 is the best grade, 5 is failing.
When applying internationally, always use a recognized credential evaluation service for official transcript comparisons.
