Frequently Asked Questions

A US B+ (3.3 GPA, 87–89%) generally corresponds to a UK Upper Second Class Honours (2:1), which is typically 60–69%. The percentage ranges differ because UK exams are typically harder to score high on โ€” a UK 70% is considered excellent while a US 70% is barely a C. Context matters more than raw numbers.
The German grading system (1–6) uses 1 as the best grade and 6 as failing, a historical convention opposite to most other systems. When comparing German grades internationally, always clarify the scale direction. A German 1.0 = US A (4.0), German 2.0 = US B (3.0), German 3.0 = US C (2.0).
Most European universities accept US transcripts directly. Provide both your official transcript and a brief explanation of the US 4.0 grading system. For formal credential evaluation, use a recognized agency. Many European programs also accept WES evaluations that convert your GPA to their local system.
Most UK master's programs require a US GPA of 3.0 minimum (equivalent to a UK 2:1 degree). Top UK universities like Oxford, Cambridge, and Imperial College typically look for 3.5+ GPA, which corresponds to a UK First Class Honours equivalent.
