Weighted GPA Calculation Example

A student has three courses: B+ in 3-credit course, A in 4-credit course, A- in 3-credit course.

Quality points: (3.3 × 3) + (4.0 × 4) + (3.7 × 3) = 9.9 + 16.0 + 11.1 = 37.0

Total credits: 3 + 4 + 3 = 10

Weighted GPA = 37.0 ÷ 10 = 3.70

At most US universities, yes — both A+ and A equal 4.0 GPA points. Some schools and a few universities award 4.3 for A+, but this is not standard. Check your institution's specific grading policy.
A straight B average (all B grades, no B+ or B-) gives a 3.0 GPA. A mix of B+ and B- grades averages to approximately 3.0 as well. A B average is considered a solid GPA for most purposes.
Use the Multiple tab. Enter each course's letter grade and credit hours. The calculator multiplies grade points by credits, sums the products, and divides by total credits to get your weighted GPA.
Most colleges consider a D (1.0 GPA) as the minimum passing grade to earn credit, though a D does not satisfy most major requirements. Many programs require a C or higher in core courses. Check your specific program requirements.
