Only courses accepted at the destination institution count.
Remedial, PE, and vocational courses are commonly excluded.

Your "all-course GPA" at the sending institution and your "transfer GPA" at the receiving institution can differ significantly if some credits don't transfer. Always verify which courses a specific institution will accept before applying.

Common Transfer GPA Requirements

Frequently Asked Questions

At most US universities, transfer credits count toward your degree requirements but the grades do not factor into your cumulative GPA at the new institution. You essentially start fresh for your institutional GPA.
UC campuses generally require a transferable GPA of at least 2.4โ€“2.8 for California community college transfers, but competitive campuses like UCLA and UC Berkeley typically admit transfer students with GPAs of 3.5 or higher. The TAG (Transfer Admission Guarantee) program for select UC campuses requires a 3.0โ€“3.4 GPA.
